ELECTRONIC REFERENCE CENTER ~  Vocabulary development & poetic terms

Worksheet 4 (Electronic Reference Center)

Things to Do:

Task #1   Go to the Electronic Library and select a poem that you would like to use for this assignment.  Print a copy of it. (it cannot be too short)

Task #2   Using the poem that you selected, go to the Rhyming Dictionary and find a minimum of 5 rhyming words and 5 synonyms, that you can replace words in your poem with.  Re-write your new version of the poem.

Note: (You may replace more than 5 words in each category and certainly the meaning of the poem may change, but it should still make sense, even though it may be silly).  You will share the new version of your poem with the class.

(Poetic vocabulary list will be given to each student as a class handout, lists may vary depending on learner needs).

Task #3  Use these two sites, Common Poetic Terms and Glossary of Poetic Terms to look up your list of vocabulary words.  Please write the definition and also use the word in a sentence.  You will be asked to share 2 of your words with the class.

Extra?  Find another new word to add to your vocabulary list that you have never heard of before.
